I only remember which issue this is because if Chrome very kindly remembers what the previous ones were called.
Nintendo seems to have a favourite recorder tune - in the Legend of Zelda, you get a recorder (which I got about an hour before writing this). In Super Mario Bros. 3 (four or five years later), you also get a recorder which is a flute (which I discovered probably at least a year before writing this). Well, when I first used SMB3's recorder on vNES, it played a tune. It was something like dun-Dun-DOO, DODodo. When I got LoZ's recorder on my 3DS, I tried it out on enemies that were immune to it. Nothing happened except this blog entry. The only difference between the two SFX is the "quality" (which makes different instruments like guitars vs. pianos sound the same, but different). If you're a beginner on both games, you'll need some practice to get LoZ's recorder - it's in the fifth dungeon. But I'll tell you where they are anyway: Look around near the north-east of the overworld and you'll end up trapped in a maze. Go north four times to get there. Then, go north then east until you meet some enemies that are invulnerable from the front. Kill them and move the block on the left. Go down and up the stairs and go west (make sure you have a spare key). Kill everything and push one of the blocks (can't remember how many there are). Go down the stairs and grab the recorder. SMB3, on the other hand, is a lot easier: The first option is to find a white block in level 3. Kick the Koopa off it and duck on it. When you fall through, dash over to the end of the level. The second option is in the first castle. Make sure you've got a raccoon suit. When you reach a box with a leaf in it near a skeleton, jump on the skeleton and fly up instead of going through the door. Fly until you're off the screen and go right. You should be on the ceiling. Run to the right until you stop and press up. The third option is to make it three-quarters through World 2 with a hammer and smash the bush in the north-east corner. Defeat the Hammer Bros. and collect your prize.
Has Anyone Noticed This? - Issue #6: More familiar SFX
