Alright. Am I the only one who cant really understand whats wrong with Sopa? Whats wrong with stopping illegal downloading? Do you really want companies to go bankrupt? Don't say stuff like "wow. You're reterded". I want clear well explained answers.

For anyone who thinks Im a troll. Im not. Okay!?!

Actually double posting is cool if they're pretty far apart timewise.

there is a thread on it but it has been inactive as of late. I would post but that would be double posting which is against the rules.

http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa/ -video lays it down well http://keepthewebopen.com/open -this is the actual bill, but I don't know if anyone here could cut though the legal jargon, but just in case you are an expert you can see for yourself.

So basically, SOPA means SMBC shuts down ER. But then again, that's VERY basic. They've already shut down FLIPPING MEGA UPLOAD/VIDEO without even needing SOPA, so why are they still running it? (I guess they only shut it down now because of word about SOPA getting around)

The question isnt what does the internet have against companies its what do companies have against pirates, I mean come on pirates are fucking rad, look at this guy: http://voidmanufacturing.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/kelloggs-mask-pirate.jpg the coolest. No, but seriously alice and rodent pretty much got it, it's far to exploitable and I'm not sure anyone trusts large companies enough not to exploit it.

According to the letter of the law... I can post a picture of Apple's iPhone somewhere on this forum. Someone could then say to Apple "They are hosting your intellectual copyrighted property". Apple can then turn around and have all of Explodingrabbit.com shut down, and assuming they can track me and I would get 5-10 years in jail. That's why.

The reason so many people are against SOPA is because there are some obscure but dangerous loop holes in that particular legislation which would make it easier for companies to stop people from coming to forums with the sole intent of pissing people off and being disruptive. Is that clear enough for you? 4chan's /pol/ board might be able to explain it better. Try there.

SOPA is bad because it effectively allows American businesses to censor pretty much any website they accuse of copyright infringement. Stopping piracy is good (in a legal sense), but giving America's richest companies the power to censor most of the internet is a bad thing.
