Request I WANT PIT FOR SMBC!

I never played the GB game, so I wouldn't know anything about it.

Here's another idea for a powerup gotten instead of a Fire Flower: A Feather. If you fell into a pit, you would fly back out a la Kid Icarus. The feather would be used up, and you would have to fly to safety. However, some places may be too high for you to fly back out of, so this item wouldn't be horribly broken. And since there's very few item boxes in a stage, that would also make it less broken. Something else that would lessen its breaking qualities would be to take it away completely if hit. You would get other powerups back if you get a mushroom, but not a feather.

Also, maybe have the Light Arrows as a special? They would be more powerful, but would use up hearts. If not Light Arrows, then how about Hammers? They would kill anything in one hit (except Lakitu and Bowser, of course), but use up more hearts the higher the difficulty is.

I think your ideas are a little clumsy if they were executed as is, but they are possibly the BEST starting point to discuss Pit I have seen thus far.

Admittedly, as much as I want him in the game I am woefully unaccustomed to the game. I haven't made it past level 2 in fact >.>

I like the feather idea, but maybe it would work better if it got you out of any pit, but you had to hit the button in time to save yourself? Might be worse, just throwing it out there.

That's because, in Kid Icarus, the enemy spawn system is obnoxious. I also hated the nearly identical system in Castlevania, but the vertical gameplay of the first few levels is rough and some of the enemies are rather unpredictable in KI that it's impossible to know what to expect. It's another one of those games where I hate the game while loving the character. Hated Kid Icarus, but Pit wasn't the reason for that. Hated Castlevania, but Simon wasn't the reason for that. Hated Contra, but Bill wasn't the reason for that. I could go on, but you get the picture.

As for Pit being in Crossover however, I feel he's a bit too similar to Samus to make him is own character. Granted, her power-ups have little to no relation to Pit's, making him a bit odd as a skin when he gets those, but their base gameplay is almost identical.
  5. Tsukiyomaru0 Level 3: Paratroopa

Well, Pit can glide and fly, unlike all characters but SOPHIA (Who needs to get Hover before Flying/Gliding). So, I think Pit makes for an interesting addition.
  6. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

I'm pretty sure he couldn't glide in his game, that was just smash bros.

He could in the Game Boy game.

    My point exactly :D
  9. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

Ah, didn't realize he had that in that game. Having just tried it out myself, I still don't really feel the need to throw in my support for him, but I suppose he wouldn't be too hard to add if Jay used Samus' code as a base (similar to what he did for Bass and Luigi).
  10. Zunar Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

^ This brings me back to what I said earlier. Since he is very similar to Samus, how about sticking him in that empty space to the right of Samus and above the Random ? block?

I think SMB3 Mario would be a better choice since he has all the sprites ready.

    Yes I said it.
  12. TheomanZero Level 7: Bloober

I think it would be better if there was an "SMB3 Mode" cheat that gave Mario and Luigi the ability to hold shells, the "Goomba Springboard" ability, and SMB3 running and jumping physics. Not the extra power-ups, though -- those aren't needed here.
Back on topic, Pit couldn't crouch in his game, and I think he shoots at about the same height as Samus. Is that going to be a problem? (Still generally in favor of him.)
  13. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

I wanted to, but I bit my tongue on that one. I feel like I annoy people with my anti-support for characters just so I can throw in more support for the ones I want. XD
  14. Crownjo Level 6: Lakitu

I think a new topic about SMB3 Mario should get it's own thread? I don't wanna derail this one anymore.

edit: Made a topic about this. Hope a mod deletes the SMB3 talk thanks.

-Pit shoots a little lower than samus, but I think he can still hit goombas; I may be wrong
-Pit CAN crouch, but he can no longer shoot while doing so
-If we give him the glide, he can just go OVER enemies. Or, since his jump would have to be adjusted anyway (it isn't that big in KI if I remember), he might be able to make it over the groups of three anyway. If neither...I guess a crouch and shoot function would have to be added.

Also, he might have been able to shoot down if you held down in mid air? I might be wrong on this, but I kind of remember doing that sometimes. And I don't feel like checking.
  16. TheomanZero Level 7: Bloober

Ah . . . you're right. I didn't feel like checking Kid Icarus either, so I just looked at Pit's sprite sheet and checked for crouching sprites. Turns out I missed them.
Since Metroid and KI were based on the same engine, I would think that if Samus couldn't shoot down in the original Metroid, neither could Pit. But I don't feel like checking either.
  17. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

I played the GB version a little the other day to check the "glide", and I'm pretty sure I tried shooting down but couldn't. I could be wrong though. I'm busy, but you can play it at nintendo8.com if someone feels like checking.
  18. MasterShizzle Level 5: Spiny

Pit couldn't shoot downward in either version.

Well, there we have it. Obviously getting Fire Arrows would allow him to hit Goombas with a standing shot. I guess that currently, Classic Samus can't attack Goombas right in front of her unless she has either the Wave Beam or Morph Ball Bombs, so this wouldn't be an unprecedented situation.
  20. MasterShizzle Level 5: Spiny

But I think Pit's shorter stature would allow him to hit Goombas with a standing shot anyway. In the NES game and onward there were only a couple enemies that were too low to hit with a standing arrow, and they specifically had to duck in order to do it. (The slimes that duck under your arrows are first seen toward the end of level 1-1, I think). Pit would be able to hit Goombas without ducking, no problem.
