It has come to my attention that the official ER chat is rarely in use. In fact, it seems that the xat chat was more active than the official chat. I think, if the official chat isn't going to be used, we should move back to the xat. I have talked to several people, and here are some complaints about the official chat. There is no moderating, and banned members can chat. Less functionality(no video sharing built in) It bugs out quite a bit xat.com/explodingrabbit
I have noticed it glitch several times and I ended up missing several messages which disrupted the flow of the conversation and It got on my nerves. Edit: now my chat bar isn't including people letting me chat and other such issues. MAJOR PROBLEM!!!
I can't say that I completely support this. If you're a banned member and want to talk to people, then I suppose it would make sense for you to use the Xat chat, unless you simply choose to for preferential reasons alone, as I'm assuming RMM does on account of how much he promotes the Xat chat. The ER chat is better in my opinion because not only is it right there in the forum, but your avatar shows up and you can private chat with people all while browsing the site. Not only that, there are three different chats to choose from if you want to have a private conversation between a few members, and the messaging system altogether is a sweet deal; the one thing that pisses me off is that the chat window will not show up in the same page as SMBC, so no chatting/listening and playing.
The xat had problems which is why we left in the first place. The integrated chat has problems too but I'm tired of trading problems for problems, and the xat's problems are ones which I would like to keep behind me. Xat: - expect to have your name, avatar and permissions reset for no reason EVERY DAY - expect to be ear-raped by screaming, sirens, horns and car-alarm emotes - expect to be invaded by random idiots when the chat is randomly featured on the xat web-page - expect obnoxiously formatted and extremely long names that take up an entire line of the chat Jay should get someone to handle the site for him. Someone needs to look at the chat plugin and see what can be done to address the issues since it's under ER's control now, unlike the Xat.
I have talked to ryuza, and he says that the chat is being built from the ground up. Most of the problems should be solved.
Banned members have a right to chat they have no reason not to have a right unless they are doing something inapropriate or harmful. Good news about the chat!
"Banned members have a right to chat" Unless of course the offense is based on their activity in the chat... which is a problem right now. If there's an ongoing chat-based problem there's nothing that can be done to solve it.
