Link & LoZ Skins

Great! If you haven't already, I would recommend trying out the tiles in some levels to see how they look. I remember some people (including myself) tried some mock-ups using LoZ graphics for level skins way back when skins were first proposed as an option for the game, and IIRC none of them looked particularly good. That's not to say it can't look good, but it may very well require some modification. You've got some good graphical options there, though.

Also, don't forget that the four-theme template is just an example. You can have many more themes than four. My Zelda II set has something like 16 or 17 different themes. :) They do all go in a single theme file, though, with four themes per row.

Should do something about the day ground tiles.
And Old mama and Zelda are pretty dark, compared to how I remember them.
    But that's anyway impressive. :)

I left them like that because the background is the same color, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to make it transparent.

On another note, does anyone want to finish this one? I'm not so good at custom 16-bit sprites.

I thought it would be funny to play as bunny Link from Link to the Past. :p Items and stuff need changed as well. Here's where I got the sprites from, there aren't many since he can't really do much of anything. It probably wouldn't hurt to get the LttP Link skin from Ryuza and just copy over the weapons, but there's still the matter of needing custom sprites.

→ No I mean that those are not "squary" rocks, so as ground tiles, it would look weird in-game.
  5. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

It actually makes less of an impact than you would think. If you go here, you can play Zelda 1, and if you walk along the bottom where you start, it looks like what that skin would look like. Surprisingly, it doesn't look all that weird.
  6. Rey D Level 9: Spike Top

    Oh you're probably right.

About that Bunny Link skin, I could give it a try when I can, but then I'd rather need the SNES template currently used in SMBC. It'd help a lot.

Here are a couple of LoZ attempts from a while back. They don't look terrible, but they do look odd:

Yeah, I see what you mean. And now that I see that in action, I can see what Rey D meant. It's one thing for characters to walk on a ground that's not squared off, but it's a whole other thing to see bushes floating because of it. Oh well. I'm definitely getting some ideas from those though. Might give another go at it a little later.

Edit: Yet another Zelda skin by me all in one day XD. This time it's the main character from Crystalis!

Not exactly sure how many people out there have played this game, but it was pretty much Zelda meets Mega Man meets pure awesomeness!

And it had one amazing soundtrack to boot!

→ Hm... The portrait should be a portrait. Like, like this, you would play as them, but don't know what their face look like. Even if it does look good, I think it'd be weird in-game.
  10. Mitewing Level 7: Bloober

His name is Simea in the GBC remake.
  11. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

Only reason I chose that is because he has a really bad face in all the artwork for the game XD. It's a really awful anime face. I love me some anime, but this is like the cheesy looking animes from the 80s lol. I could try to make it look good though I guess.

There was a GBC remake? That's a bit of an odd name. I actually kind of liked that he was nameless. Oh well.

Ok, so I found the face for Simea (still think that's a weird name), and I simplified the colors on it so that it would be easier to re-size, but I'm having trouble getting it down to portrait size and it actually looking good. Would anyone mind having a go at trying to make it look decent at that size? It's currently about 4 times too big.

The GBC remake is an abomination that should not be talked about, tbh.

→ I'll try out in a bunch of hours.

In order to catch attention, I'm double-posting. I can merge anytime if it's unnecessary.

    Anyway, I just finished a.... mudman-weird-looking-hero-from-Crystalis:

I wanted to do something a bit more personnal than just copy-pasting (sort of) the art. I guess it's a fail. But his hair takes a lot of place anyway. I could do another really supposed to look similar to the art if needed though.

EDIT: I searched out the art to make it, by the way

  18. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

If you check the wiki I ended up making a portrait for him and posted it. You can touch up that portrait if you'd like, something about it just seemed odd too.

    Been there, done that. lol
  19. Rey D Level 9: Spike Top

→ wow hey nice job! :D I will correct palettes when I can.
However, you should do something about the jumping sprite. Just a walking one instead will not look good.
  20. silentshadowxp Level 6: Lakitu

He didn't have jumping sprites. Same goes for Link who it's skinned over. I might try touching it up later if you feel I should.

Wait, now that I think about it, do you mean the sprite where Link is holding his legs tucked in? He's a little tricky to work with, but I might try later.
