Using Super Arm, you can pick up the coin block under the exit pipe in 1-2 and 4-2. Interestingly, if that's all you've picked up (i.e., you're standing where the coin block was), you can still walk through the pipe. If you get rid of all the blocks, though, you can't get out. Also, when you throw and break the block that was the coin block, you get a coin and 200 points. EDIT: The same bricks appear in 6-2, and the same thing happens with them.
I could never pick up bricks that had stuff in them (unmarked question blocks). How dafuq did you manage that
Accidently, I suppose. I've been able to duplicate, too. It happens every time. I think that brick is setup differently. There are no bricks in SMB that contain a single coin (aside from normal coin blocks and invisible blocks). It looks like this one is probably setup to be a normal brick, yet it behaves differently upon hitting it. Therefore, things that look for a normal brick (e.g., Super Arm) find a normal brick, but then once it's hit/broken, it becomes a coin block (although Super Arm destroys the bricks it throws, so it gets destroyed, but you still get a coin ).
I'm not sure I would really call it a glitch with the super arm itself, since you can't seem to pick up any other block. Just those two particular ones. I'd probably call it a glitch with the blocks themselves, for the very reasons you outlined. edit: If you're standing on the block beneath it, you can still go through the pipe. If you get rid of the surrounding ones, it's either the warp or the pit for you.
Yeah, it really is a glitch with that kind of brick rather than the Super Arm, but the Super Arm is the only way to invoke the glitch.
Alright I made it several times to test its behavior. This really happens. Interestingly enough, once you throw it, it does not get replaced by little parts of a brick. Instead, it disappears. It does hurt once, though. And if it had a coin inside, it does give it.
It's probably simply a matter of changing and index or something that identifies whether a block can be lifted with the Super Arm. I assume that index for this block was simply overlooked.
I did that before this was posted. I showed it to Iam. I was in 16 Bit Mode and with Bass. Oh yeah, and I made base wave at us with a glitch that I dunno how it happened :>
Still, it's fun to play around with, and you can always just use the cheat trick (press jump 10 times and special once).
I just want to make sure the discussion about this bug being fun for not won't go too far, so I'm making it clear: That bug is fun at first and for some (and quickly), but it shouldn't happen because it could ruin a walkthrough, for example.
There ARE actually more blocks like this. 6-1, there is a large row of nine one-coin-bricks close to the top of the screen, used to bypass a pit nobody but Mario or Luigi can make. I have not tried it yet but I imagine you can grab those ones too, since they have the same properties these two do. edit: I think it's 6-1. It's world 6, I am almost sure of that.
Well, in any case, the Super Arm should only be able to pick up breakable bricks. Those blocks were made indestructible for a reason.
