    in my opinion i would like a 16 bit remix of rockman 2's wily castle 1 & 2 in smbc.
    like so:

    Even though I've known that Proto Man was a prototype for Mega Man, it only just now clicked why his name is Proto Man... I feel like an idiot now XD

    Interestingly, I'm quite certain "Proto Man" never shows up in the Japanese version. His name is and always has been Blues in Japan. I actually remember Nintendo Power calling him "Bruce," which I found rather odd (of course I understand now that it was just a bad translation :p).

    The whole changing of names in the series has been interesting:

    Rockman --> Mega Man
    Blues --> Proto Man
    Forte --> Bass
    Gospel --> Treble
    Eddie --> Flip Top --> Eddie
    Rightot --> Auto

    On top of these have been countless enemy name changes. Fortunately, the Robot Masters have remained the same (aside from the confusion over "Clash Man" and "Crash Man").

    Double-posting, it's been a while. :p

    What if...?

    THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL!

    That being said, I decided to whip up a sheet with a few changes:
    • Concrete Shot :awesome:
    • Two-frame normal shot, this could give a little more variety
    • Two-frame Water Shield, for the same reason
    • Four-frame Metal Blade, since otherwise it would just be empty squares
    I just realized this weapon setup doesn't take Bass into account, but I think some minor adjustments could be made and it would still work just fine.

    Again, this is just a mock-up, DO NOT USE IT AS A TEMPLATE!

    I love that! The extra frames for some of the other shots and weapons would be nice!
    That being said, I think two Metal Blade frames are sufficient. Four opens more opportunities there, sure.. but I'd stick with two, move Hard Knuckle over it and give it two frames, then make a two-frame Flame Blast shot with the box where Hard Knuckle used to be. That way all of the weapons have at least two frames.

    I actually considered that with Hard Knuckle and Flame Blast. It would make more sense. Actually, I should modify the sheet to account for Bass as well, since his frames take up some spaces I've used in the Mega Man sheet.

    EDIT:

    Alright, I think this works a bit better. Now all of the weapons have at least two frames, and with the extra space for Concrete Shot I figured the crumbling graphic might as well have two frames, too. Mega Man's normal shot is up with the rest of his buster shots, and that's okay for Bass because Bass's bullet goes in the empty space where Flame Blast is. I actually don't think his weapon needs multiple frames, because it moves too fast on the screen for multiple frames to really matter.

    Again, just to make sure:

    DO NOT USE THIS AS A TEMPLATE! IT IS FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY! CONCRETE SHOT IS NOT ACTUALLY IN THE GAME!

    Excellent! This could really open up some new skinning opportunities. It'd be nice if everyone's templates got improvements like this.
    Of course, I'm still rooting for Plug Ball . . .

    I adjusted the image once more, just to fit Concrete Shot and Water Shield together better. It's in my previous post.

    Double post for fun trivia (and it's been a couple of months :p).

    I recently read an interview with Inafune, wherein he said that when Mega Man X was being planned, he wanted to essentially reinvent Mega Man, so he came up with the design for Zero. The company, however, felt it would be better to stick with a design that better matched the original Mega Man, since that's what people were familiar with. So, he got the same guy who designed Bass to design a new look for X, and he came up with what we have now. Inafune said he has always seen Zero as the "real" X, though, and he enjoyed working on the Zero games because of that.
  10. Crownjo Level 6: Lakitu

    I already knew this but yeah Zero was suppose to be the main character.
  11. TheomanZero Level 7: Bloober

    This is why everyone who whined about getting Zero instead of Mega Man in MvC3 was completely unjustified.

    "This is why everyone who whined about getting Zero instead of Mega Man in MvC3 was completely unjustified."

    ... that's really stretching it, isn't it?
  13. Rey D Level 9: Spike Top

    I assume this is why the Zero series was made.
  14. TheomanZero Level 7: Bloober

    . . . Maybe a bit. But those whiners REALLY annoyed me.

    Didn't a similar thing happen for the original Mega Man games? Mega Man was supposed to be red, but due to color limitations on the NES, he was made blue instead.
