Super Mario Bros. Crossover is a fan-developed flash game created by Jay Pavlina and later worked on by Zach Robinson (Ryuza) and Blaine Hanna (sbq92) of Exploding Rabbit. It is a remake of Super Mario Bros on the NES, and appears just as the original version did, but gives players the option to play as characters from other games in addition to Mario, and comes with more features, such as cheats, difficulty levels, new modes of play...for more, play the game!

DevelopmentSMBC was developed by Mr. Jay Pavlina on and off over the course of 15 months. It was written using Action Script 3, and made in Adobe Flash CS5.

- The first version of the game, referred to as "1.0" was released on Newgrounds.com. It was an early version of the game that was not quite finished, this was noticeable in many areas, such as: Mega Man's jump was different from the way it had been intended in the original idea.
- Once the game had moved to its own site, Mega Man's jump, as well as numerous glitches and adjustments, had been changed to fit with the original idea. It also featured the introduction of Ryu Hayabusa as a playable character.
- Version 1.2 released December 15th added a host of new features, including Survival Mode, a music set option, missile power-ups for Samus, tons of new cheats, and SOPHIA III as a playable character.
- Since then, the latest version of SMBC (1.2.03) released December 16th introduced new sprites for the spike top enemy, new grappling controls for SOPHIA III and many bug fixes.
- Jay had previously announced a larger "big update" to follow closer to Christmas time. This will now likely be introduced in July 2011.
- The big update was announced to be version 2.0 and will be released by the end of the first quarter of 2012, the update features customs graphics by Zach Robinson and custom music by Mat Valente.
ReceptionThe game had a pretty good reception when released on Newgrounds. This prompted Pavlina to move the game to its own website, which shared an address with the Exploding Rabbit Forums. The game has been reviewed by more than one internet source including, in a coincidental nod to the creator's name, Jay is Games, which gives the game a rating of 4.75/5. The rating is based on reader's votes, which range over 300, but the review itself, written by one of the site's employees, speaks glowingly of the game. Other reviews include ones by The Review Depot (8.8/10) and Comics Alliance calling it "the game we've been waiting for for 20 years".
