Super Mario Bros. Crossover/Enemies

From Exploding Rabbit Wiki

This is a list of all enemies in SMBC. Only Mario, Luigi and Link (with his Downward Thrust) can hurt enemies by hitting their heads, but Mario and Luigi have their limits.

Enemy Found In Description HP
Goomba
Goomba.gif Goomba - Blue.gif Goomba - Grey.gif
Everywhere Goombas are what happens when you take a Mushroom and irradiate the heck out of it: a mushroom-shaped freak of nature. Luckily, they are stupid as their fungal origins; they move, quite slowly, to the left until they hit an obstacle, at which point they reverse direction. Mario and Luigi can quickly dispatch them by jumping on their heads. Goombas, you see, have skulls the consistency of (guess!) mushrooms.
  • On Hard difficulty they become Buzzy Beetles, and on Extreme they become Spike Tops.

Green Koopa Troopa
Green Koopa Troopa.gif Koopa Troopa - Blue.gif
Everywhere Koopas are turtles. Like Goombas, they walk lazily to the left. They are either stupid or depressed, however, because they will walk right off cliffs given the chance. Stomping a Koopa Troopa will cause it to withdraw into its shell. Kicking or stomping the shell makes it speed off to the left or right (depending on the direction it's hit from). The shell keeps going, plowing through players and enemies alike, until it hits an obstacle and changes direction or falls off a cliff. Stomping a moving shell will stop it. If a shell is not moving and is left alone, eventually the turtle will shake itself out again and keep on walking. 4 to put in shell, 2 to kill shell
Red Koopa Troopa
Red Koopa Troopa.gif
Everywhere The Green's (slightly) smarter relative. The Red Koopa does not walk off edges, but other than that it's the same deal. Stomp them, kick them, stomp them again. 4 to put in shell, 2 to kill shell
Koopa Paratroopa
Red Koopa Paratroopa.gif Green Koopa Paratroopa.gif
Everywhere These come in both red and green varieties as well. But they have wings. That's right: turtles with freakin' wings. They don't fly so much as bounce ineffectually up and down. As before, green goes off cliffs. Flying red koopas are stationary and go up and down. Stomp them once and they lose their wings, turning them into regular old Koopa Troopas for the rest of their sad little lives. Shed a tear for them, for such is their life.
  • In 7-3, there are green flying koopas that go side to side!
2 to remove wings, 2 to put in shell, 2 to kill shell
Cheep Cheep
Cheep Cheep - Red.gif Cheep Cheep - Grey.gif
These little fish don't look like much while underwater. They lazily swim to the left (unlike their aquatic companions the Bloobers, who will shoot themselves at the player like rockets). If you let them cluster, they can be mildly annoying, but otherwise these oversized goldfish aren't much. They come in red and gray. Both of them can swim straight forward or a zig-zag pattern, but the red ones will move slightly faster than their gray counterparts.

Once you get out of the water and dry your tunic, the next level shows how scary they can be! They catapult themselves out of the water, trying to dive bomb into you (like real-life flying fish)! Only red ones come up out of the water. Whichever direction you walk, that's the side they'll face when they launch themselves. Don't get any brilliant ideas about stopping, though; then they'll launch from BOTH sides! It's recommended to just run past them very quickly, but that may not work so well for some characters...

  • Defeat 300 of these to unlock the Water Mode cheat.

Blooper
Bloober.gif
Underwater If Cheep Cheeps were commies, these are their guns.

These aquatic horrors swim up and down, homing in on you, looking cute and generally pissing off everybody they have ever come up against.

Apparently these enemies are afraid of touching the floor, meaning if you crouch down on the floor or are a small height character walking on the floor (i.e. Link, SOPHIA III small Mario or small Luigi), you are immune to them.

6
Piranha Plant
Piranha Plant.gif Piranha Plant - Blue.gif
Everywhere, as long as "everywhere" includes a pipe These are exactly what they sound like. They come out of pipes and, like the eyeless horror they are, bite at absolutely nothing just in case some tasty plumber ass gets in the way of their teeth. After a few seconds they must retreat back to their dark abyss of a home. If the player is standing next to (or standing on, or clinging onto the side of) a pipe, they will not come out of it. Some believe that these are the tentacles of Cthulhu himself. Others believe that they are based off of plants found in the real world. A very select few believe both... 3
Buzzy Beetle
Buzzy Beetle - Black.gifBuzzy Beetle - Blue.gifBuzzy Beetle - Grey.gif
Everywhere (or, on Hard difficulty, "FRAKKING EVERYWHERE WTF") These are like Green Koopas, but they can't be killed by fire. They are really just big freakin' bugs with shells made of diamond. It's unknown where the term "Buzzy" came from, but we suspect that they're fairly sensitive about it. They behave just like Koopas otherwise, and they don't discriminate because of their color: truly an example to follow.
  • On Hard difficulty, all Goombas are replaced by these.
6
Lakitu
Lakitu1.gif
Lakitu Attack levels These fly around in clouds and rain spiky (or hammerey) death upon all who come near them: they just fly overhead, following you and throwing down Spinies or, if you've got the cheat turned on, HAMMER BROS! No, seriously: "Oh look, it's a Lakitu. WTF?! It's tossing HAMMER BROS at me!"

Kill one and a replacement will continue the slaughter less than a minute later. But that can turn out to be a very productive minute.

8
Spinies
Spiny Egg.gif Spiny.gif
Lakitu Attack levels While in the air, they are Spiny Eggs: they hatch as they hit the ground into Spinies. Spinies behave just like Goombas, but cannot be stomped by Mario. 3
Bill Blaster
Cannon.gif
Everywhere These things fire Bullet Bills (or Hammer Bros. if you've got the cheat turned on) at the player.

Wait a minute - HAMMER BROS?! No, seriously: "Hey look, it's one of those funny cannons! HELP! It's shooting HAMMER BROS at me!"

Apart from that, they're just platforms. Also, if you are standing next to one or are on top of one they won't fire, much like with pipes.

Invincible, but harmless apart from the Bills/Bros
Bullet Bill
Bullet Bill - Black.gif Bullet Bill - Grey.gif
Everywhere with Bill Blasters These are (usually) the things that cannons shoot. Max per screen is 2. These have armour, but can be stomped on for the kill by Mario.

Link's downward thrust will make him bounce off of them. The skilled can "Downward Thrust Ride" them; how far can you get?

3
Spike Top
Spike Top animation.gif SpikeTopsBlue.png
SpikeTopsWhite.png SpikeTopsBlack.png
Everywhere with Goombas, but only on Extreme difficulty, thankfully The hardest enemy in the game. They can be killed with Koopa shell, hitting a block while they are on top of it, Star power, or missiles. It's recommended to use SOPHIA III or Samus to battle them because they can kill them from far away with their missiles: everyone else should avoid them.

Spike Tops were originally from Super Mario World, but were added to SMBC to make the Extreme difficulty mode very challenging. Their original custom 8-bit sprites were designed by J Squared up to version 1.2.02 of SMBC. The current 8-bit custom sprites used as of version 1.2.03 were designed by Ryuza.

Hammer Bro
Hammer Brother.gif Hammer Brother - Blue.gif
Everywhere except Peaks and Underground, unless the All Hammer Bros. cheat is on, in which case BLOODY EVERYWHERE They stand upright and wear dorky helmets and, if you've got the cheat, are everywhere - see Lakitu and Bill Blaster. They even come out from under the bridge in 2-3 and 7-3 and also in 8-4! They content themselves by throwing hammers at the player from a distance, and are just generally hard to get close to, much less kill. It is inadvisable to stand there waiting for them to run out of hammers; not only do they get the hammers straight from a portal leading to the forges of Hell, after a while they will just get pissed and run right at you (no kidding here, they really do). Defeat 50 of them to get the Evil Hammer Bros. cheat, which makes them chase you - ALL THE TIME. Try beating the game with this cheat and the All Hammer Bros. cheat turned on...

Any character with a ranged attack (Link's sword beams, Sophia, Simon's axe, etc.) can just wail away at them from FAR across the screen.

Podoboo
Podoboo.gif
Castle levels You can't go through a Bowser level without running into a few of these little fireballs. Defending the rights of the rhythmically-inclined everywhere, Podoboos are the little fire balls that shoot out of the lava pits to take out any player with horrible timing. Make sure to pay attention to the pattern they have so you can avoid being flamed and subsequently melting in lava, not to mention the possibility of being laughed at by your friends and potentially Gettin' Served.

A related foe is the Firebar.

Invincible
Firebar
Firebar.gif
Castle Fire bars only appear in castles, turning in the axis of a block to obstruct the movement of the character. Some characters - because of their sprite size being different from Mario - may have some trouble getting through areas with firebars.
  • World 5-4 has the largest firebar in the game (it's the first one you see). "Whoa! That thing's huge." - Jay Pavlina.
Invincible
Fireball
Fireball.gif
Castle levels, near Bowser The proper name for Bowser's Fire Breath is oddly called Fireball. Go figure. Invincible
Bowser
Bowser - Walk1.gif
Castle levels, generally at the end He is King of the Koopas, also simply known as King Koopa. He can breathe fire and, when he gets really mad, can throw hammers. And no, not just one hammer, we're talking bunches of hammers! Ah well, at least you'll have to wait 'til World 6 until he starts doing that. While he is rather sensitive about his weight, there's currently no "Cruel Fat Joke" button in SMBC. Maybe in 2.1... 44
